Interestingly enough, I have discovered that if I print the envelope to the XPS printer then print the envelope from the IE7 XPS viewer, the envelope prints properly!! I shouldn't have to go through the XPS printer each time in order to print envelopes properly though and I haven't figured out yet what all of this is telling me.

Finally, I tried physically disconnecting the printer, uninstalling the driver then reconnecting the printer and letting Vista install the driver. I then tried the same thing with an intervening re-boot of the system and the problem again remained unchanged. Thinking the problem might be in the printer or printer driver installation, I have tried un-installing then re-installing the printer driver but again the problem remained unchanged. I have checked all of the settings in both the printer driver as well as settings in Word 2007 which affect printing (Under “Mailings\Envelopes” and also “Word\Options\Advanced\Printing” and nothing seems to affect the problem.

The above facts all indicate to me that the problem is not likely to be a printer hardware problem but a problem with a setting someplace (or other software problem).

Also, the printer is nearly brand new, lightly used and full of toner. The problems also occur if the envelope being printed is actually an 8 ½ by 11 paper sheet from the regular paper tray. Non-envelope documents which print on normal 8 ½ by 11 paper all print properly as does the printer test printing sheet. Also, the printing on the envelopes is inverted, or upside-down from the way it should be printed according to the feed image selected in "Mailings\Envelopes" in Word. Envelopes which originate in Word 2007 and had been printing properly are now printing with the font so light that it is barely visible and impossible to read. It has not been tested with Word 2007/2010, but similar principles apply. It does work for Word 20 - substitute \8.0\ or \9.0\ or \11.0\ for \10.0\ as appropriate.
